 Essay: Representational issue of age

In the first scene, the camera takes a mid shot of the countryside to acknowledge the audience of the setting in which the next scene is clipped to show the next scene of the camera panning around the countryside with farmers working on the fields. To accompany this shot, country music is played in the background. This emphasises the stereotypical view of farmers working in the countryside. Also, the sound of the tools clattering and being used by the farmers signifies their pride in being a farmer.
In the next scene, the camera is at a low angle as a young girl exits the house, however, the camera is at a high angle with the protagonist. This is a representational issue of age as this emphasises the protagonist's superiority. The camera is then at a mid shot of the young girl as she enters the car in which she is figuring out how to drive. As the young girl drives off, the camera focuses on the other characters as they carry on their work in which they hear the sound of a car crash. The camera then is at a close up of the three character's facial expression, emphasising their shock. The scene then clips onto the next scene.
In this scene, the camera is at a mid shot of the young girl as she looks terrified at the car whereas the camera is at a high angle of the victim she has crashed her car into, which is her former head teacher. The protagonist and the other characters rush to the scene of the car crash, which the camera is at a high angle of the protagonist and at a low angle of the young girl. This emphasises the young girl's vulnerability. The camera clips between each character to capture the dialogue and facial expressions as they are told by the head teacher that the young girl has not been attending school.
In the next scene, the camera shot is close up to the head teacher, however, is at mid shot of the protagonist. This is a representational issue of age as the head teacher is older than the protagonist and is well respected. The sound in this scene is mainly dialogue as they are discussing the young girl's poor attendance at school. In the Mise en scene, we can notice the head teacher and the protagonist drinking brandy. This is a traditional drink which many elders drink, which supports the representational issue of age. The camera is then at mid shot of the young girl outside the head teacher's office. Then the camera is at a high angle of the protagonist as he barges out of the head teacher's office in which the camera is at a close up of the protagonist's faltering facial expression, emphasising his disappointment in the young girl.
In the next scene, the camera is at a long shot o the farmers working which is accompanied by the sound of upbeat country music. The scene clips onto the young girl in her bedroom. The camera zooms up on a teddy bear to signify the young girl leaving her childhood. To accompany this scene, sad music is played in the background to emphasise the young girl leaving, which ends the scene with a zoom up on an image; which the camera focuses on to emphasise that she is going to miss this place and the people she has met.
In the final scene of the clip, the camera is at a close up of the protagonist as he has found out from another character that the young girl has ran away. The close up of the camera emphasises his facial expression, showing his concern for the young girl.
